Mrs NTF - ‘Is that you buying another of those 1980’s racing books’
Me – ‘Huh? No, it’s Paul
Jones’ latest book, you know, the guy that used to do the Cheltenham stats books?’
Mrs NTF – ‘You sure? Looks like it’s from the 80’s’
Me – ‘Nah, I’m assuming that’s SOBA on the front’
Mrs NTF – ‘Who the hell is Soba?! Is it a Moldovan horse?!’
Me – ‘I’m assuming Moldova is to do with the Eurovision song contest’
Mrs NTF – ‘Are you drunk?! Why would he be talking about the Eurovision song contest, I
thought he was a racing guy, it’s got a horse on the front...and it totally looks like it’s a book from the 80’s!’
To which I honestly replied...
‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’
Actually used those words.
Talking about a book.
And it’s cover.
And how it is no reflection on its contents.
Totally thought I’d get through my entire life without using that saying... to describe a book!!
(for the record I have no issue with the cover picture, Mrs NTF on the other hand...sorry Paul!)
Paul Jones' superb latest book – From Soba to Moldova - contains 20
chapters of top class punting insight covering mainly, but far from exclusively, horse racing, whilst taking betting detours via the likes of football, Golf, Darts and the aforementioned Eurovision song contest (Paul scarily knows his stuff in this department!).
Within the 20 chapters he
covers such topics as ‘Staking and Value’, ‘Action Bets’, ‘Keeping the Faith’, ‘Dealing With Losing Runs’, ‘Betting Angles’ and much, much more. In fact, within those 20 chapters there are multiple sub-headers going into further depth and exploring additional topics, it really is a book rammed full of tasty titbits for punters of all levels and experience.
The really great thing about this latest offering from Paul (and it was also the great thing about his Cheltenham Festival Betting Guides) is that once you’ve read it
you’ll want to read it again. Maybe not from cover to cover straight off the bat but I guarantee that you will be dipping in and out of various chapters randomly for the next few months, if not years.
For me the book is almost a throwback to some of the great racing literature of years
gone by. Think Alan Potts’ Against the Crowd or the two Nick Mordin books Betting For A living and Winning Without Thinking or maybe the Mark Cotton One Hundred Hints For Better Betting (all books you should definitely have on your bookshelf). Paul’s book fits snuggly amongst that lot and I’m confident I’ll be delving into it for years to come, I probably will read it again, a few times, from cover to cover, but for the foreseeable future it
will be my go to ‘dip in and dip out of’ racing book, probably my 'toilet book' for around a month or two (you know, the one you read when you are sitting on the toilet!!), until Mrs NTF gets sick of the sight of the cover and launches it up the stairs to my office (seriously, what’s her problem with the cover!?!)
The way I see it is that if you only buy one racing book this year then you have to make it ‘From Soba to Moldova’.
But why should you buy it because I say so?
Because if you quote NTF when buying the book Paul will give you a fiver off!
As you know, I only promote products
that I would personally use myself and that I am 100% happy and confident with. As soon as I completed the first chapter I knew I’d have no issue promoting From Soba to Moldova. It’s awesome, simple as that.

Paul was always kind enough to offer discounts to NTF readers for his Cheltenham guides, so I’m delighted he’s done the same for his latest book.
From Soba to Moldova is packed with interesting pointers, angles and views and I'm always trying to cram my brain with interesting racing knowledge, that's just how I operate. It's also how you should operate and this
book, for me, is vital reading material for all racing/punting fans.
This is an essential publication to have at your disposal and it's essential you DON'T pay full price for it, not when you can quote NTF and get a fiver off!
